CCCC= Colour Changing Comb Chicken

I have a bantam roo who's comb,wattle and face contantly changes. I mean, 1 day he's red parts are bright red and then a pale red the next. then he,s red parts turn normal for a few days then he getssmall,small spots on his comb then they disappear. Then he's redness randomly changes.

Is there something wrong with him because he's behavior is normal and he eats and drinks normally.

Could it be early signs of fowl pox?

He's probably okay. I think their combs are bright red when they're excited, and some depends on the temperature outside. Like when our faces turn red in the cold. Fowl pox leaves big nasty scabby sores on their comb/wattles/eyes. It's nasty looking.

I'm hoping its ok `cause my BR hen is the same way- except it can change on her a couple times per day. I think it's a little like when roos get red leg stripes- a sign of testosterone.

Fowl pox does indeed produce spots on the comb that would be visable. Sometimes pale combs are a sign of poor nutrition or parasites.

He is the first pekin roo i ever had i really love him

He looks so very funny when he is running around and he looks like little ball with feathery feet

My yonger sister says he's the cutest roo we ever had

I've never seen that on a chicken . . . but I'm not expert.

Turkeys - specifically males, do change the color on their head when their mood changes.

My Giant Silver Tom changes from blood red to white with blue mixed in.

I am wondering what became of the chicken with the comb that would go from pale to bright red?

I have two hens who are currently exhibiting this same behavior.

On one site I read it could indicate a fever, and another said it was due to lowered body temperature of the hens.

Another site claimed it was usually the sign of a contented hen?
