So, people have been getting careless and forgetting to wash their hands. Lots more Salmonella cases have popped up over the summer, with a quarter of them being in young kids 5 and under. Review and reinforce that handwashing for the kiddos.

These reminders go out 3-4 times a year -- the last was in late May. And no, the CDC doesn't want to take away your chickens or your self-sufficiency.

Sadly in many things folks don't think it is a real problem until they are faced with an infection.
If I washed my hands every time they come in contact with a chicken or chicken related item I'd never get anything else done and I'd have soft girly hands.
Can't have that.

As long as you don't suck your thumb, you'll be fine.

So are you suggesting all the hand washers and hand washing recommenders are thumb suckers?
Those 5 and younger may be. I never suggest anything in regards to the actions of others as I am old enough to know that to do so is foolish. I am far to fallible to judge others.

Kids under 4 will lick the chickens if given the chance.🤣
I'm pretty sure there are quite a few chicken kissers around...even some older lady ones.

🤮
