Cecal worms=tape worms?

Panacur paste might work on tapes if you give enough for 3-5 days in a row.  Paste dose is 0.23 ml per pound for 5 days, it is *not* a pea size amount. The pea size amount might treat roundworms, but that's about it. Much more is needed for other types of worms.

You know what, you're absolutely right. I apologize, my previous information was incorrect. I'd have sworn that it was Fenbendazole prescribed but I called my vet today and it was actually Praziquantel. My sincerest apologies. Dosage for Praziquantel is a pea sized amount per bird to treat tapeworms.

Regarding the "pea sized amount"... I know there are many posts that say that, but that amount of Equimax is too much for a 5 pound bird. Equimax dose for a 5 pound bird is 5 / 2.2 x 10 / 140.3 = 0.16 ml. A pea sized blob is almost twice that.

Blob by rice = 0.025 ml
Small blob by pea = 0.1 ml

Medium blob by pea = 0.25 ml
Large blob by pea = 0.5 ml

In case any of you are wondering how I know how many mg are in a ml, it's because I've weighed the paste, and 1 ml weighs 1 gram. From there it's just a little math.

Very interesting. I got my pea sized-amount figure straight from the vet. I'll print out these posts and bring them in to her next time I'm there, I'm sure she'll be interested to see this research. Thanks Kathy, impeccable information as always.
