cedar chips

[chicken parm]

Can i use cedar chips in my chicken coop? I've heard there not good for the chickens, whats the reason? mine are a year old, does it effect all ages? or just chicks. how about for guineas or ducks?

I've been told they are poison to them, but i'm not sure. We use pine shavings or corn cob bedding.

I know it has something to do with the oils in the chips. I use pine or straw.
