Cedar Lined Coop

Lined with aromatic cedar for odor 'control @Rarebuzz ?
Not a good idea for a birds sensitive respiratory system.

x2. Need clarification on type of cedar.

My old coop is all cedar but and I have cedar trim on the current coop, but neither is the highly aromatic Eastern type, and both are well ventilated, so no cedar scent inside or out even when they were brand new.

I saw it on someone else’s chicken coop and wondered if it is better. Fir/pine is cheaper and last time I painted the inside. It made it easier to clean and kept it brighter for the girls. Winter can get cold and dark here in Montana, so it’s nice to brighten their space up.

If you can't be sure of what type of cedar it is, better to stick to a less aromatic wood than cedar. Though painting wood does help to seal up the surface along with aromatic oils.

If using aromatic cedar be aware that if you paint it, the oil in the cedar will soften and mess up the paint. You will need to seal the cedar with shellac first, then paint it. I suggest you use some other wood.
