Cedar shavings

Why should you never use Cedar Shavings for bedding? I ask because that's what I've been using that last two days.
 
Cedar gives off fumes from the aromatic oils in it; that smell that makes cedar so wonderful. It can cause respiratory illness in chickens.
 
It is toxic, the fumes have been known to kill chickens as well as other critters. I would replace it with regular pine shavings. If you don't have any on hand right now, I'd still get the cedar out of there and use papertowels or newpaper until you can get some.
