Cedar tree in chicken run?

There is a huge cedar tree in the middle of one section of my chicken run to give them a shady place to lay under on the warmer days. I know to never use Cedar shavings around any animal...but is the tree version alright? My former flock lived under that tree for years without any obvious problems, but I'm just wondering if I am taking an unnecessary risk when I let my babies go outside here in a few weeks.

hello i had small cedar tree about 4 ft tall inside a lot i made last year raised 25 cochin bantams some how the cedar tree died go figure.

It's the aeromatic oils from shavings that could pose a problem. I would not worry about it at all.

A big old cedar overhangs part of my run and has for 30 years with no ill effects.

And the evergreen leaves of cedar discourage gnats and black flies...
