Does anyone use one for an at home business? Do you recommend any particular brand? Pros/Cons?
Thanks for any info

I use Square for home and my yarn shop. I have used Intuit as well, but stopped because Square is best for me.
No hidden fees (Intuit dings you at month end for an extra fee) and best of all, money is deposited next business day instead of 2-3 days later.

The Square register app for iPad is great too.

We use the Square for the flea market and yard sales, it helps a lot if someone wants something but doesn't have the cash on hand. We have never had a problem with it. My suggestion though, order the square off their website, it's free that way, if you were to get it in a store you would spend close to $20 for it.

I haven't seen that on any of our transactions, but I imagine it would be like any other credit card reader. All reader's charge a service fee which is usually passed to the business owner/company. Are you planning on using it full time, as a main card reader, or for things like flock swaps and the such?

Thanks for the replies :)

After many years of dreaming about it my DH (diesel mechanic) is finally working out of his shop here at home. I just thought for those customers who can/will pay by credit card it would be very convenient. Some of the transactions can be large so when you take 2.75% of say $1500.00 it just seemed like alot.

There is another option as well, that lets you pay a monthly fee, but large purchases like that (I think it is $450 and up) will revert to the 2.75%. One thing my dad used to do (Performance Mechanic for race cars and street rods) was reduce the cost of the repairs if they were paid for in cash, kind of like what the large gas stations do for semi-truck drivers.

Good business point on the cash transaction. Oh my DH would love to have done what your Dad did. He did help his buddy on his pit crew for the modifieds and whatever else they did years ago. But reality and kids came along

And he loves the street rods.
