cement ponds???

Hi there,

I have a raised cement pond which is about 10x15 ft the depth is about 1.2ft. I,ve designed a slope on one side made also from cement for the ducks to walk up and swim. they like climbing up and jumping in to swim.

The pond doesn't have any steel enforcement since it's not very high. But any higher and u might encounter cracks from water pressure.

I made a raised pond to ease drainage. I fitted two 2" PVC pipes with gate valves to empty the pond, it only takes ten minutes.

I'll try to post pix later,

Hope that helps.

We have over a dozen concrete ponds about 6' x 12' 10" deep they are not sealed and did not leak at first but after about ten years now they do leak. We have water going through them 24/7 so the leaking isn't a problem. The shallow ponds with the moving water keeps them pretty clean. We clean them about every 4-6 weeks. My advice is go with a four inch drain or it will get clogged. We use threaded connecters place the female end on elbow and pipping in before pouring slope the bottom of the pond towards the drain and you should have no problems draining them.

We went with a 6 inch drain but then again out cement pond is somewhere between 50,000-60,000 gallons and cover about 5,000sqft of surface water with the deepest being about 3 ft.
The only place we had to put any kind of sealer was around the drain pipe and where the water comes in.

make sure you put a drain on the bottom so you can easily clean it out.

i will try to get some pictures of ours posted tonight during the construction part.
