Central Florida Hatch-A-Holics Poultry Swap Feb 12, 2011 Ocala

I don't know if any of you remember, but we "rescued" a goat that we named, Gabby. I posted about it at length on this forum last year. Here are the links to the threads about her: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=3063622 and https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=3063095 The vet estimated her age to be 2-3 years old, and she was in MISERABLE shape....I didn't even want a goat, but I couldn't drive by her every day on the way to my barn - she was starving. Both for food and for attention.

This is her before we brought her home. I took pictures to send to Animal Control. They did nothing about it, so I decided to offer the old man money. He snatched the cash and I snatched the goat.

She spent many days like this:

She ate and ate until she put on a good bit of weight - probably 40lbs. We grew to love her so much!

Unfortunately, she had CAE....which she had never been "treated" for. She lived with us for one short year. She passed away in this last Oct. and all the kids miss her (we all do). I'm going to talk to my husband and friend (Gabby was often at her place - next door) and make sure we're all on board.

I think we like your little boy with the frosted ears.....and I bet you know why

Boy oh boy this should be a great swap. We are getting calls every day about new people wanting to come out and sell some of their birds. There is one gentleman that is supposed to be bringing about 200 RIR's from 3 weeks to 3 months.

Looks like we will have goats and bunnies and maybe a piglet or two as well. If all the birds show up that people have said they are bringing, there should be well over a thousand to choose from.

Now let's just start praying for nice weather.

The 4-H will be here again with food.

This should be another fun filled day.

Wow, God bless you for taking care of that little girl! She looks a lot like my girl, Nina (the boys' mom). Actually, that first picture reminded me of one I took of Nina - technically it's the first picture I ever took of the boys:

Do you have any other goats? These guys are used to living in a herd, so one goat by himself is gonna be kinda lonely. He might adjust to just hanging out with the horses and getting lots of attention from people, but I would expect some crying in the beginning (healthy baby goats have VERY strong lungs).

I really want to come, but I have to work... any chance there will be any of you left at about 5:30 or so?

Maybe I can get my hubby to go over with the kids...

Count us in!! We will be there!!!

We are looking forward to meeting everyone....and buying some birds. We will be looking for Silkies, and Cochins. (and whatever else catches Our eye) LOL

We are still on the fence line, about bringing any of our birds to sell. We do have tons of EE, and LF Splash Cochins. Most are 10 weeks old right now. We also have a bator full, due to hatch, in a few days.

What we have right this minute. We are only keeping the frizzles, and a few of the Cochins.

We might just use this time, to meet everyone, and get a feel for the swap...and bring some to sell next time. How often do you hosts these swaps, ThePamperedPullett?

Also...if it starts at 8...best time to be there is?? We are about 2 1/2 hours south.

Welcome itsiebitsiefarm
We look forward to meeting you. We are going to try to host at least 6 swaps this year, one every other month. Depending on how our bodies hold up and who else is having swaps, we might do more but we don't want to be swap hogs. LOL. cmom (Hilltop Farm) may also be hosting a swap or two this year in our area. We will try to have most of the swaps posted on our web site or on cmom's web site at hilltop-farm.com.
We look forward to seeing you here.

Erinm - I think we're going to have to not get your darling boys at this time. I have my heart set on getting a Brinsea Advanced incubator....and I really need to use any money I earn at this to go towards this. I am so sorry...but I think you should bring them - it sounds like there will be LOTS of people at this swap!

Here's what I'm bringing so far:
13 (or so) Easter Egger chicks (they will be 8 days old at the time of the swap)
5 dozen Easter Egger eggs
3-5 EE pullets (8mos old)

I will be on the lookout for:
Silver Laced Wyandotte fertile eggs, chicks, or pullets
White Crested Black Polish
EE or Americaunas in white or wheat

If anyone knows anyone who's bringing the above - would you let me know?

I'm really looking forward to attending!!!
