Centralia, PA - anyone know about it?

We went there last summer. Not much there at all. Even the streets are hard to see. All grown over. Only a couple of houses. We we not sure we were even there except GPS told us we were. Pretty spooky. We were visiting the coal mines and they were talking about Centralia there. They told us there are a handful of people still living there. That is why the fires can't be put out. They tried everything they could with residents still there and the only thing left (Excavating) they needed to have everyone gone. Since it is all coal under there it will keep continues to burn. The same of it all is that there is enough fuel in that mountain to fuel the world for the next 400 years. 1 of the cleanest burning fuels and it can't be used.

l live nearby also. It's really weird how the cemetery remains untouched but has burned around it. I find it interesting also that Verizon users don't get service there, but I do with my pay as you go el cheapo phone.

That is odd. But then again, I have "the new AT&T" with "more bars in more places" except where I need to use the phone. I lost a signal 5 miles outside of Chicago for crying out loud.

Weird about the cemetary though.

I want to go sooo bad... Have you seen the 80's movie with John Candy, Chevy Chase and a crud load of others called "Nothing But Trouble" That movie is based off of centralia.. I think it would be soo cool to go see it...
