Hoping to add two, possibly three more girls to my current pet flock of two (a 3 y.o crossbeak OE hen and her 3 y.o. black australorp "sister"). I'm only interested in black australorps and the easter eggers/olive eggers/ameraucanas so my girls can have flockmates of the same feather. Wanting either one of each of these breeds, or, one girl of one breed and two girls of the other breed. I believe a flock of 4 or 5 total will also be a more effective predator watch than having only 2 birds. For me, egg production is just icing on the cake--I just enjoy my chickens.
My girls have always been pure pets; I don't breed and I don't sell eggs. Prefer confirmed pullets, or, hens up to 5 years old. I'd consider spent hens as long as they are healthy and disease/parasite free. I had day-old chicks 3 years ago so not wanting to start with chicks again at this point.
My hens free-range during the day and are put up into a secure run containing their coop each night. Large barn, second coop in barn for emergency or other use, completely fenced pasture and barnyard with electric tape top and bottom, plenty of shade, bushes, trees, grass, chicken huts. Two trusted veterinarians in town who I've been going to for horses, dogs, cats and chickens for 14 years. I try my best.
Bear with me...
... I'm zip code 78624 and can travel probably 2 hours one way to pick up chickens where they live or meet to pick up chickens. Prefer not to make an epic adventure trip. However, I'll be in the DFW area in two weeks time and can do my best to work a plan if folks in the metroplex have chickens to sell to meet my needs.
You can PM me to ask questions, share pricing info, etc. Thanks in advance!
