can I use a ceramic bulb in a regular heat lamp light fixture? Some people say the fixture needs to be ceramic also?

I use a ceramic heat emitter with a regular fixture for my hedgehog. It works just fine! Good luck!

I played with one today. It gets hot to the touch but you have to have it pretty close to get any heat into the brooder.

Any heating element is safer in a ceramic socket...why risk it?

I use ceramic bulbs as they last longer and use far less power, always in a ceramic fixture. They get very hot but the heat doesn't distribute very well compared to a heating light so would be useless if used outside/on top of a brooder so you will also need to purchase or make a cage to prevent burned chicks
