Cerebral Palsy???

That is why I was shocked that you said you had some mental retardation. I had a friend that was a senior in HS that did rather well but she couldn't tell time.

Well I just figure that's what they make digital clocks for

.

Considering your condition you seem to be handling it well.

This is off topic kinda but my daughter is also considered disabled. She has a genetic disease called Cystic Fibrosis. With this disease it only effects her organs not her mental functions.

Also I'd imagine that anyone that has a disability are ticked off any how. I would be. I know that a lot of children with CF have to go through counseling because they cannot control their feelings of rage. I mean my daughter is a drama queen. I'm scared they are going to think we neglet her because she hits her head on the wall when she's mad and when it's time to do her breathing treatments she throws fits and starts throwing stuff. I feel bad for doing it to her, but it's the only way to ensure that her lungs are functioning properly and aren't harboring any bacteria that can cause pneumonia (which she is only 2 and has been hospitalized for more than 3 weeks 3 times).

i have mild cp. it affects my left side, but most people outside my family don't even know. i live a full life ,do anything i want and rarely think about it. sometimes i limp if i am tired, or trip and bust my bottom, but that's just life. some people do have mental impairments along with cp, but many, many do not. i was lucky to have such a slight case and do not let it affect my life. i can do anything anyone else can , only i may have to do it a different way.

i guess i owe thanks to my mom. i was taught to make the best with what you have, never feel sorry for yourself(remember the bible verse about a man with no shoes feeling sorry until he saw a man w/ no feet?) there really are people out there worse off than i am and i am happy with my life as i am. for some reason that's the way GOD made me and i am at peace with that. BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE PLANTED!

I think how a person deals with thier disabilities/illnesses depend on them, not all feel sorry for themself. My DH has a form of muscular dystrophy so now at 30 he is in a electric wheel chair full time, never complains. My son who has ADHD,OCD,aspergers and tourettes never has a why me day and is always happy( other then last month when his new meds turned him into a depressed violent monster dr's fault though!). My DD has MD like her dad, she uses a stroller right now for walks, and had major developement delays but has cought up to boarder line delays, recently her ot is worried about her fine motor skills as she seems to be losing them! She had a 6 week hospital stay the night before her first day at school due to a fractured femur, she was suck on her back for the whole time on traction then an additional 2 weeks unable to walk. She only cried the night of the accident mainly because the hospital we went to doesn't deal with kid well, she was transfered 3 days latter to a much better hospital even though it was an hour a way.

At 2 hitting her head and throwing things is normal as they are just learning to express themself,Don't chalk it all up to her CF this early on.

My mother has it, she has had it since birth, but she is not at the worst stage.
She has it mild.

She too has muscle spasm, she has it in her legs at night, so she is on amitripilyne for that. (spelling)
Her feet go outwards and more on the sides, but she does walk on her own, talks fine and all that.

But when peaple look at her they think that she is not all with it. Which makes me feel really bad, but sometimes i do think her mind is not all the way there, becouse she thinks WAY too much about things and then she gets all nervouise about things.

she dont hink right a lot of times, she makes the wrong decions and then regrets them later.
she does repeat herself alot, has snappy moments sometimes too and says she dont relize she is talking like that. and forgetful, but not to the extent. just asks the same qustions here and there.

It's because there is nothing one can do but learn to live with it and manuever around the problem areas. Nothing good can be accomplished by wallowing in self-pity. Rooster has CP. I'm fat. What's the difference really? Just something we each have to work with in our lives. Also, it's a proven fact that good attitude has alot to do with good health. (Remind me I said that next time I rant

Rooster - how do you handle your anger management? I am just wondering if some information from someone who has Asperberger's could offer suggestions I could pass along to my boss.

I'm not overweight I am undertall.

I'm still interested in knowing how Rooster handles the anger aspect of Aspergers. I spelled it wrong the first time.

Like Debi said...we all have things we have to learn to deal with. Some are more severe than others. My brother is austistic and he has really taught me that we can all learn to deal with or even overcome obstacles.
