chain-link as an apron

I have a question.

I'm working on my run, and planning to use chainlink with hardware cloth on the inside.

For the apron (bottom part to prevent digging predators), can i use chainlink covered with dirt. The run is about 120 linear feet and i would like to avoid buying more hardware cloth, and although chainlink is expensive, i have an extra 200ft that i received for free. So what do you think.

Nothing could possibly dig through it. Make it Ft. Knox.....took them a year to find us but they did find us. Have lost 3 chickens in four weeks. I have however trapped two coons in four weeks. I am going to continue setting the traps every night! It is a horrible feeling when you realize you really did not have them protected!

I have a friend who used chainlink to cover the top of all his runs also.....talk about Ft. Knox!
