Chain link run cover

For those of you on here who have a chain link fence for your chicken run, do you cover part of the run?

Would it be better to have part of the run covered??

How can I cover part of the run...and make it pretty? I would like to stay away from tarps or just laying wood on top.

I like in the city so I'd like it to look a little nicer.

I know they sell those shade things for the dog run, but I still don't really love the look, but it's better then nothing, but do those block rain out?

why dont you use netting? I went to home depot and they sell a chicken net to cover the run with.. or even the strawberry netting.. it is just to detour flying birds not something that will be able to hit the same spot over and over again.. ie a dog or other preditor on the ground.. they have them in black net and you really cant see it when it is up.. I plan on replacing my soccer goal net that I currently have over my run when it has worn compleatly out with the black one to not be able to see as much.

You don't mention how big your run is, but is it possible to simply have an area within the run that has a roof structure? Perhaps you could attach it to the side of the coop so it extends out, say six feet. You could use the ribbed plastic, which looks neater than a tarp, but would require you to build a support structure for it. Perhaps you could use the same idea but use cedar shakes, or a tin roof instead. Shakes look attractive, and the tin roofing can be purchased in a choice of colors, that may look good as well. Both roofs would act as a shade, and a rain protection. By attaching one side to the coop, you would already have one part supported. See how I have mine.

I bought a beige colored painters drop cloth from home depot. I didn't like the look of a plastic tarp and the canvas is nice and heavy. I used mini bungee cords to hold it down on the four corners and it works out very well. My chickies HATE being in the direct sun and would not go in the yard when the sun was directly over head, even on cool days. Once I added the canvas cover, it wasa different story

hello everyone. We have a chain-linked fence run and we are thinking about putting a scrap sheet of metal over the chicken doors so rain doesn't get in and cover the rest with some orange construction netting we got for free. it is durable and will keep out cats and other predators. By the way, our run is 8 ft. wide, 10 ft. long, and 5 ft. high.

We have a chain link fence run. (dog run)

What you could do is get old fence boards and put them along edges. Then paint it bright red and you have a barn!! ta da!!!!

Personally, I haven't done this yet because I am still collecting boards. It is surprising how many board people throw away.

Also you can put the boards across for a roof. If they are a little too short you can nail a nail in one of the board which will make it longer.

The boards along the side with ones running in the middle for support and then we used the metal roofing. It helps keep the rain and prediators out.
