Challenge: Hatching The Impossible!!!!!

It's not a good gene, but it does exist.
Sounds good.
I didn't find much on death genes, but what I found says that sometimes one copy of the gene will result in a trait, like muffs or frizzled feathers, but two copies will result in death. This seems really interesting but there doesn't seem to be much out there about it!

The creeper gene is one of the death gene, which usually causes Dwarfism, like in Japanese Bantams, & Seramas.

My silkie Pudge died at 7-8 weeks old due to Dwarfism. I should've noticed the abnormally short legs sooner.
This is my Dwarf silkie chick.

Sad to hear that only 1 looks good. Hopefully #3 makes it. Sorry the other two are bad. Your Silkie Pudge is adorable. So cute. I'm sorry you lost her.

That doesn't match what I've read.

I've read that the creeper gene causes very short legs, in Japanese Bantams and Scots Dumpies and some other breeds. And that chicks who get two copies of the creeper gene die in the eggs, at some point before hatching. But Scots Dumpies are certainly bigger than bantams, so the creeper (short-leg) gene apparently does not cause dwarfism. And the chicks that have two copies of the gene and die, do it before they hatch, not a few weeks later. So I think something else was going on with your silkie chick.

Some places that I have read about the creeper gene:
