Challenge: Hatching The Impossible!!!!!

One chick died during hatch. It was a mix.

Another just hatched, & it's a dark blue silkie.

The outer membrane was dry, & leathery due to the humidity being too low.
My mom was supposed to be monitoring everything while I was in bed. Apparently she forgot the importance of higher humidity during hatch. The chick couldn't pop out after zipping, so it just gave up.

I had a bantam sit on 5 eggs and when they were hatching I had to moisten the membrane because that day was dry. It can be tricky hatching chicks. Sorry for your loss.

I've been applying coconut oil to prevent this, but it was out of my control because I was sleeping.

I am fascinated and learning so much with this post!. I've never hatched any eggs so I didn't know about the pip hole and membranes and all that. I thought there was the egg and then suddenly it starts breaking and boom, out comes the chick. Didn't even realize that a chick could die trying to hatch, but then again I'm really new at having chicken so many things are still new to me.
I'm looking forward to jelly beans hatching video

Yep! Just remember though, have stuff ready. Usually strange shaped eggs and twin yolks will need eggsections. (eggsections! )

My double yoker was fertile but only one of the yolks so the chick absorbed the other yolk and did hatch but ended up being huge and its legs couldn't hold it wait do it died
