that my 9 day old poult is a male. he was the first one strutting and only one other one did it for about 2 seconds, but this one held it for a good time. he even fell asleep with his wings out a bit and body puffed up. it was the cutest thing i ever saw! he paced the cage in strut which makes me believe hes a male.

i know hens can strut but this guy held it a long time. What are the chances its a gobbler?

Well, it is possible but strutting is definitely not the best way to sex a turkey. I have found the only true way to sex a turkey is by the gobble. Only toms can gobble..hens cannot. Of course, you can tell through visual appearance as they age as well. But even then, some hens grow beards and look boyish. They can be tricky sometimes.

Yeah.. how do you sex a turkey poult?
I like to name mine but if I name it then I am sure it will be the opposite sex.Never fails.
DH said to name it Pat.. unisex ..
Or Jive.. Jive Turkey...

I guess I need to just wait and see. if he gobbles .. well we know then.

I have to say tho. He is rather ....slow. Like the lights are on but no one is home.

I doubt it..
With my guinea keets they where all the same age, same size when I got them.

When I got my turkey they had more.. guy said same clutch and all where same size.Guess it would depent if they thrive differently at that age.I am sure there is a varriance on size but I didnt see it with my animals.
