i was under the impression that the Texas legislature passed a law, effective 09/01/2017, preventing cities from preventing citizens from owning backyard chickens. Does this law also extend to HOAs?

That is what I was worried about.
Bummer...
.....but an HOA would have likely trumped it anyway.Does this law also extend to HOAs?
I don't think so.Bummer...

This specific law was going to include something along the lines that would make it so any one would be able to keep at least 6 hens. Regardless of location in the state. In SC so not apple to apples but our area is unincorporated and there are few rules but our old HOA forbid chickens and any other livestock. Nobody has challenged it yet but often the HOA wins because you agree to abide by the HOA covenants when you buy your house.
I guess it depends on the HOA...my knowledge is that they can forbid things that are legal in the 'outside' world.I talked to my HOA president and they said a law is a law that there is nothing they could do about that.
