This is my 6 lil chicks ( they are about 7- 8 old ) 4th day out in the coop/run. At twlight they get loud. Go up and down the ramp to the coop.
Then get in the doorway and stop and look back out. Causing a traffic jam.
There is alot of squawking flapping. Then they all get in and there is still fussing for awhile......is this normal?? I am a newbie....can you tell : )

Sounds like they are afraid to enter the dark coop. If you had a timer, you could set it to go on around dusk, and then turn itself off after maybe 20 minutes. They would enter and settle down before the light goes out.

Hello and welcome to BYC. You have some great advice from D/Diva. Even hanging a flashlight in the coop should work.

Best wishes

After posting this I read some threads about being afraid of the dark coop. I aimed a flood light on the coop where there is a window. This helped to have them settle in. Thanks everyone. I want to keep them happy! I love being able to learn from everyone here.

Is what makes BYC so great!

I have spring chickens that have made it a habit to roost in the rafters at night instead of going into the coop with the older hens. How do I get them to go into the coop at night instead?
