Let me preface this by saying that I have been banking with Chase/Wamu for almost a decade. I have had some FANTASTIC experiences and I have had some AWFUL experiences. Last night was one of the latter.

Because we are coming up on Christmas, myself and all my coworkers were paid early. Instead of Friday, our direct deposits went in last night at midnight.

I hadn't yet finished my Christmas shopping (still haven't quite finished

) so I decided that I wanted to go midnight shopping. Jamison wasn't extremely excited, but he came along because he knew I wanted him to

I spend around 2 hours shopping. Picking things up, carrying them around for a while, putting them down again. I finally select the PERFECT thing for each person in my life (sans a couple) and we work our way to the checkout. By then it is 12:30. I check my phone, yup! My deposit went through.

Swipe my card.... Denied....
Again... Denied....

Utterly confused and embarassed, I decide to have them put my cart aside and wait another half hour. Maybe it needs a little time to finalize?

Get back in line....
Swipe my card.... Denied.

At this point I am pretty irritated. I call the number on the back of my debit card and manage to get a live human on the phone. I know right. Miracle.

"I'm sorry m'aam. There is no problem with your account. Your funds will not be unavailable to you until 7am EST due to a system update."

Not believing I could have POSSIBLY heard him right, I ask him to repeat himself. To no avail. It is almost 1am, and my money is locked up until 4am PST.

I go back and explain my situation to a manager and she asks if I have any checks on me. I do not. She says that she can only hold my cart for an hour, so if I can go home, get a check, and come back witihin an hour I should be fine. I think that would work, until I remember that my purse was stolen a little bit ago and I don't have my new ID yet. I bring that up to the manager, explaining that I have no form of picture ID at all.

I think she must have seen the heartbroken look on my face because she took pity on me and agreed to hold my cart until 6 am.

Jamison and I collapse into bed at almost 2am. My alarm goes off at 4am. I drag myself out of bed and go to the store again. I walk up to the manager lady and she says "YAY you made it!!!"

My cart gets rung up again, I swipe my card...

I loaded my treasures up into the car and get home around 5 this morning. At that point I didn't see any purpose in going to bed again, so I stayed up and wrapped a bunch of the presents.

Long story short, I only got 2 hours of sleep last night because stupid bleepity bleeping Chase didn't send out any kind of heads up or notification of the system update, let alone that my, and I am sure thousands of others, account would be locked down this morning.

I am so happy I finally dumped my Chase account!

After almost 12 years of banking in the same branch, not one teller knew my name.

After almost 12 years of banking in the same branch, I would have to show ID to get $10 back out of a paycheck-same one I have been depositing all those years.

After almost 12 years of banking in the same branch, they would still tell me regularly that I should try some place like the grocery store if I needed a roll of quarters (laundry) cause that is not what they are there for.....

And I could gag every time they yelled, HI WELCOME TO CHASE at every person that came in the door and yet managed to treat you like you are invisible when you are standing in front of them.

A few finally recognized me, no idea what my name was, but only cause I was...not friendly with them a few times (Like one of the quarter days when they suggested I try the gas station and my reply loudly was...OH I AM SO SORRY-I THOUGHT THIS WAS A BANK)

I trained tellers for years and years...Chase is as bad as BofA.

I stopped banking with any financial institution that took stimulus funds. If they couldn't run a business without taxpayer money, why the hell would I give them mine with such a shoddy track record.

Now we're with a nice, local credit union and they are awesome! Today, our personal banker saw me depositing a check so she came out of her office, gave hubby and I a hug and wished a joyous holiday. Now that's the kind of service I like!

I had Chase for my bank account, I was really looking to go with another bank. Then I bought my house. I was so freakin happy that my mortgage was NOT through Chase. Then 10 days into my mortgage...... Chase bought it!

I made my first payment on line. Then 2 days later I am online checking my bank account and it is overdrawn by$2400.00. WHAT!!! I called them and they told me that I pushed the submit button 4 times for my mortgage payment. I called BS! The times that the payments were made was 2 of them 30 minutes apart and 2 on the following day after I made my original payment. They then tried to fix it. This resulted in me owing more than the original loan amount! Ummm hello, let's get it together guys. It took them 3 weeks to fix it and..... I was charged a late fee for making my first payment late(My payment was made 2 weeks early) and tons of overdraft fees (they did refund those). I decided not to dispute the late fee on the mortgage account because I did NOT want them messing with the account again, Lord knows what they might do it then. Sigh..... I am stuck with them for 30 years. I really wish I had some say in who buys and sells my mortgage loan.

I've been with Chase for almost 10 years and have never had an issue with them that wasn't my own stupid fault.

Go figure. Ya win some, ya lose some.

ETA: I did recently have an overdraft fee caused by a wine club I belong to that took out the January Wine Club payment a month early! That's not my fault, but it's in no way Chase's fault, either. I have since then canceled said wine club membership. It caused me to go almost $200 into overdraft fees. NO wine is worth that.

At this point I don't think I would ever bank at a large commercial bank. I am with a credit union and I am very happy with them.

That must have been so annoying to have cash that you could not access. I hope you find a better bank.I have heard credit unions are better.

See, my branch in my old town was like that. But the branch I go to now is wonderful. I really mean that. My personal banker and I are on a first name "soul sista" basis, and I am on friendly terms with all of the other bankers as well. I even know the names of their dogs haha. But the TELLERS! *shudder* Luckily, whenever I walk in one of the bankers stands up and goes "Jess!! Over here, I'll take care of ya!"

Since I moved down here, all of my Chase experiences have been wonderful. Except for this. But the problem was with Corporate Chase, not my personal branch. I plan to stay with them. Once I made friends with the bankers, they noticed how long I had been banking with them. I now get coffee brought to me, special check cashing privelages, and a healthy dose of light-hearted chitchat whenever I come in

So for me it really is a love hate relationship haha. I hate my old branch, and I love my new one.
