Chat about the special chicken in your life!

Here is my special chicken:

I was told she is a Highland Brown - not the Australorp I dreamed of but still, she is very special to me. I bought her individually and the older hens would not accept her, so I raised her myself. Today she still pecks food from my hand and comes when I call her by name. Since the other hens still dislike her she tends to hang around people whenever she gets the chance. She loves being held and petted and is a teeny-weeny bit spoiled...I admit.

So who's your special chicken?

I love this picture!

Birdy Me - having read your chicken story, I have fallen in love with Josie and Corey. I hope they both continue to improve and enjoy life.

My Special would have to be Boss!

This is "Sebright" my golden Sebright hen. She's 7 years old now. I got her from a hatchery as a day old. I handled her a lot and she got so should would come over to me whenever I came out to the chicken's area and look for treats. She got really sick twice as a young bird and would not eat or drink and slept all the time. I brought her in the house both times and had to hand feed her with a syringe to keep her alive. She got better after 3-4 days both times. To this day if anyone leaves the front door open she helps herself into the house! :)

Is it okay if they've passed on? an owl/hawk got both of these:

Chloe was quite young in this picture, she lived to be 3 until i found her feathers scattered one day.
anyways here is her story:
My first batch of chicks had just turned 7 weeks when i saw an add on CL for chick days at Family center. I wanted more chicks, so I went and as he was packing up, i bought six chicks from him, four cinnamon queens and two bantams.
no matter how much i handled these, they still hated me. but i still tried hard to make them tame.
long story short, nine weeks after i bought my first chickens, i had added so many i had 40. nine weeks. i was an addict, lol!
racoon/fox attack- 7 were left. all 33 were dead, we came up one evening and piles upon piles of my babies feathers were just laying there, blowing in the wind.
but ahh, four standards and three bantams had lived! soon shortened to five though by the two bantam cocks.
Chloe dear was part of the five. one day i decided i would force her to come to the barn with me and look under some rocks for food. the minute i showed her the first batch she loved me.
followed me EVERYWHERE. when she wanted a rock lifted she would sit there and peck at it looking at me every so often.
she was my baby from there on.

Clover was also taken by an owl/hawk. she was even more special than Chloe.
Last year when we went to get our first batch of chicks for the year, the man gave us one extra for 50 extra cents. of course we took her. She was very trusting of me, always being so gentle. one day a ferrel dog came and killed a chicken, and took a bite of Clover's head. She lost her eye to the incident, but lived on.
I cant even begin to describe how much i loved her.

Of course it's okay to talk about them even if they are no longer alive. I'm so sorry for you tadpole98, those are two beautiful hens.
I had a chicken named Amber who was taken by a big cat before she even laid her first egg. I was heartbroken. Seeing the picture of Chloe reminds me of her

I think I forgot to mention my special chicken's name when I started this thread. Her name is Charity. I have plenty more pics of her which I will post as soon as I can access them.

Keep posting everyone!
