DH had to work today, so I just added more wire to the temp pen and made the circle bigger so the brats could enjoy their new pond

They are having a ball in there.
Personally I would use the metal, unless the wood is hard wood or has been treated, because any wood to ground contact is easy prey for termites and other creep crawly's.
If your wood is anti termite ( LOL ) then I would use the wood, because it is going to be more aesthetically pleasing!!

The wood that I plan to use building the run is all pressure treated

well im stopping in for a few pretzels are almost thru with the first rise .... ok supposedly i can feather sex these chicks if that is true i have one roo for sure 1 hen for sure and another i am pretty sure is also a hen !!! those babies sure have huge feet lol and the lady said the coloring looks like they will be splash
