Chat room for non religious poultry keepers! :D

Right around the 14th, 2 local breeders are getting together, selling various breeds. My coop is only 40" x 60" inside, so I don't have all that much room. Looking to get 3-4 hens, should get 3 or 4 and should I get all the same breed or mix? The run is 6ft x 10ft. What say you?

Made it! Although I did skim quite a bit of the last half.

Not getting much done today; sitting in the computer room with an afghan and the little space heater going (it makes more sense than heating up the whole house just because I'm a bit chilly.) My little weather station says it's 48°F/8.8°C. It's got to be at least 55°F/12.7°C before I'm comfortable outside.

I scooped the coop poop shelf and this morning and that was it. It's looking like the next few days are going to be gray, cold, and rainy. We may get to have a fire in the woodstove so there's that at least.

you need ~ 2 sq feet per bird in the coop. So 6-8 is a good number for the size you have.
