May I offer a possibility? Perhaps a religious person was sad bc they felt excluded from what is proving to be a very interesting thread? I lurked here for a while until it was stated that religious people are indeed welcome, provided they respect the non-religious nature and intent of the thread. So, color me 😄! This is a great thread!
Agreed! I think that the non-religious title was only meant to let people know that we weren't going to talk about religion. That doesn't mean religious people aren't allowed. But if they do feel offended or left out, there are lots of other forums they can join! ❤️

My best friend is very devoutly Christian. I am not. That does not stop us from being very close friends. She invited us (hubby and me) to a service at their church. We went and enjoyed the fellowship.

Would she like to me to "be converted?" Yeah, probably. But our difference on this topic does not stand in the way of us sharing a lot of the rest of our lives. She doesn't push her beliefs on me. If I have questions -- and I've asked a few -- she tells me what she thinks.

When we get together for a meal, her husband says grace. I think that's not a bad thing at all. He is thanking God for the food, the day, the friendship. I am also thankful for the same things, even if I am not thanking any diety. I am grateful for the blessings I have.
This perfectly mirrors the situation with me and my best friend. She is Christian, I'm not. But we get along really well and enjoy each other's differences

Thst's a very mature perspective. We should be able to accept one another just as we are, without trying to change each other. (We call it "unconditional love." Unfortunately, some of us find it easier to talk about than to put into practice.)

As I mentioned previously, there are literally dozens of other religious threads on BYC. So fair is fair. Here's one for the people who choose to not follow one of those.

Be nice, be open-minded, and no one will have any problems. Imagine if the whole world could manage to figure that out together. The amazing things we could accomplish...

we weren't going to talk about religion.
Occasionally we talk about religion, but sometimes it's regarding non-Christian/other organized religious ideas and beliefs.

I am always interested in what people believe. I'm not trying to change anyone's beliefs; when I ask someone, "Do you believe in God?" I am truly asking that question.

I'm interested in what brings people to their beliefs.
