Chat Thread for the New Crazy 24 hour Auction

There's got to be a better way to find the quail eggs than sifting through the shavings with my fingers.

Does anyone know if coturnix will use some sort of nest box?
Mine never would. My understanding is that a lot of people use the tilted wire flooring so the eggs would roll to the front making egg collecting easier because they like to lay anywhere and everywhere

No room for 16 Slate Blue turkey eggs (20 of the Midget Whites fit easily).

One Slate egg will have to go in the Hovabator for a couple days, then the other Brinsea will be available.

The good news is, a leftover piece of quail egg tray (after I cut one down to fit a Brinsea), fits perfectly in the remaining space. So I can get 15 Slate turkey eggs and 10 quail eggs in one Brinsea.

If you take the dividers out you can fit more eggs in. Fill in any empty space with cotton or foam like you have done to keep the eggs from rolling around as they are turned. Word of caution, though. The arm that connects the motor on the turner to the support piece that turns is not strong enough to withstand the weight of an overfilled incubator, so hand turning the incubator is highly recommended.

One Brinsea has the turning cradle and one doesn't. I can overfill the one that doesn't, and just tilt the entire bator back and forth.

I have an old quail cage that sits on a frame at a tilt so the eggs roll out the egg hole and into a egg tray that runs the length of the 12' cage. I do not have quail but this cage was given to me to use for rabbits.

I have my contrix quail on wire and they lay in their sand/dust bathing basket without fail. If there is a shavings basket, they use that too. Very occasionally they may lay in the quail apartment, which is a basket lain on it side for them to rest their feet in. Bonus of being on wire, their poo falls through and I put it in the compost. Here is my Quail paradise. I laid a sugar glider cage I had sitting out back on it's side and built a frame for it.
