Chat Thread for the New Crazy 24 hour Auction

Wow! Lucky you, to have some still laying! Good luck on the hatch, and I'll sure let you know when mine pick up again.
My reds are about the only ones that are still laying. So I haven't had to buy any for eating...yet...lol

Thanks! This'll be our first hatch from them, so I'm not so patiently waiting with hopeful anticipation. Thanks for keeping me in mind for the LO eggs. A couple weeks ago our girls had almost stopped laying all together. I was lucky to get 5 a day from our main layer flock, so we were all shocked when they went into production mode out of the blue after a really warm spell. Luckily the haven't slowed down again yet, but I have a feeling it's in the mail. Temps are supposed to plummet here again this week. I'm so ready for spring already. *sigh*

I guess it could be possible I have red sexlinks and not production reds, I mean they are both red and look alike, and if thats the case im in BIG trouble because after I seen how good my original 4 layed last year I went and bought ALOT more... I have 30 birds now!!! Guess Ill let this next set lay thier year out when they start to and then Ill have a deep freezer full of chicken!!!

Heres my whats supose to be production reds, they just arent producing! Lol

Those are Production Reds... if they were sex-links your male would be mostly white with just some red leakage...

Either way, sex-links, Production Reds, Comets, Cinnamon Queens, etc are all bred with the same concept... higher early production... consequently the cost of that is becoming 'laid out' quicker... all hens hatch with the amount of eggs they will lay in their lifetime already determined... some spread it out so lay longer in life and some lay as much as they can as quickly as they can... kind of like comparing a semi-automatic clip to a machine gun clip... and ones that frequently lay double yolkers halve their numbers as each of those counts as 2... just fyi...

Well Hopefully they arent done just yet, I will have to see what they do this spring and summer before I make any real decisions! Hopefully they start laying again, because I really like them!!!

I have four heritage Polish hens that will be six years old this spring. Except during their annual molt,it is not unusual to get a total of two or three eggs from them each day.
I will definitely look into them,Thanks!! My family goes through ALOT of eggs and we started selling them as well, so we need a bird that can produce for us year round!

@CherMoz you must have a really rare kind of polish, everything ive read online says they typically lay 2 eggs per week, and knowing my luck I would get those! I didnt realize how small they were either, cute but small! We are looking for more of a dual purpose breed, for meat and eggs. Im leaning more towords getting a few black australorps

Black Australorpsare nice birds, but I've found New Hampshire Reds to be our best dual purpose breed so far. They lay nice big brown eggs and beef up quite well.
