my chickens are over a year old and they wont lay eggs whats wrong?

Do they free range? Is it possible they are laying somewhere outside of their coop/nesting area??

they free range but we keep an eye on them

Keep them in the coop and see if you find some eggs.

I agree with keeping them locked in the coop for a couple of days. Then you'll know for sure whether or not they're laying.

my neighbor has over 40 hens and most days gets 0 eggs. About 15 of them are over a year old and layed regularly until this summer. The rest that she got this past spring, have never started laying. Could the large number that she has together be causing the hens not to lay? I got my 2 'batches' of chicks at the same times and mine are laying regularly (i only have 8 compared to her vast numbers!) and they came from the same place. Curious!?!
