LOL!! The only brain
picking I get to do is on BYC. Thank goodness for this place, but oh to really get
hands on brain picking!! Lucky lucky lucky!!
Does anyone no anything about a seller on eggbid that goes by shagbark. She is
a few hours from me and it looks like she has some really really nice lavenders that
I thought about getting but it would be nice to get a refernce about her.
Congrats on the new sweeties! They are darling!!

Thanks guys, I am of course really proud of them.

Bren and Deb have such beautiful Silkies that it's hard to make a choice.

Shag just bought one of Bren's Lavender Hens. Now, I am not sure who or where her other Lavender Silkies came from, but they are pretty!

I do know that there are a couple of different lines that when bred together they do not breed true. It just depends on how they got to the Lavender color and what bases they used. But, if you pick one breeder and stay with that bloodline, then they should breed true.

That's why I chose Bren and Deb. I know that when mine are bred together they will breed true, and of course they have gorgeous birds. And, they are really helpful if you have questions. I really like sellers that try to help you understand the breed and Deb and Bren are both very knowledgable when it comes to Silkies.

Bren and Deb still have some for sale. Bren might have some juvenile pairs still for sale. I know she just sold 2 more pair, so not sure how many she has left. Her's are bearded.

Deb has some Non-bearded Cockerels/Roos for sale and then I think she has a couple of bearded pullets for sale also. Deb had some trios on eggbid, not sure if the auction is over yet.

Bit of a drive for me to meet all of you. I wish I were able to get there, so I could pick your brains!

Love the birds you took home Cammy! That girl is already quite the ball of fluff!

Thanks keesmom! I think the baby is going to have a rather large crest, which the larger the crest the more I like them. I am def. taking the baby to a show, I think she just might do me good.

Hi Jen, you're not alone- Alan Stanford in Eaton, OH has beautiful Silkies.
Boy, I would also love to pick brains & birds at Bren's or Deb's. Who wouldn't? My best ever Buff hen was from Deb's line. 2nd best from Bren's.
Shagbark Silkies are nice people, reputable breeders/sellers. They have nice birds.

If I ever get into Lavs I hope to get them from Bren or Deb.

Definitely can not go wrong with Bren or Deb's Lav's. I am going to keep a pure line of their Silkies. I am going to build 2 separate pens, because I do have a couple of birds that I would like to breed the older Lav roo too and see what type of offspring I get from them. But, I will have a Bren and Deb pen only.

You should contact them, they are really reasonable on their shipping price.

Cheryl,

This is a very pretty little bird.

I don't think she's a partridge. More like a buff to lav or buff to blue.
It's hard to tell from the photo.
Where did you get her? She's lovely.

Brenda

I no that Alan is in Eaton but none of his birds are kept at his place. I have talked to him before and his wife doesn't let him keep
them there or something like like. I don't really no what the deal is with that.
So you all are saying that bren or deb would be better than shagbark??? I no that someone told me she just got some birds
from someone in Texas but I didn't no who. Now I no. LOL!!
Forgot to ask how I would get ahold of these great people, is there a website?
thanks!!

I am heading out to shagbark in April to pick up some lav. chicks. So far the contact I have had with them has been great. Everytime I would e mail them I got a responce with in minuets. They seem to be honest, but we will see when I make the trip out. I have a million other questions for them!!!!! I also wish I had someone else close enough to me for advice, and just to share the love of silkies.

I am not saying not to buy from Shag at all. She has gorgeous birds. Just my opinion to pick the breeder you want to work with and stay with that breeder, because there are lines that when bred together will not breed true. So, you will get some chicks that are not Lavender from two Lavender birds.

Deb is listing some of her Lavender's on eggbid now. Bren might be listing some pairs if she still has some available. I really just lucked and got 2 wonderful breeders that live so close to me and they work hard on getting their silkies where they are suppose to be. I am hoping my hen starts laying again soon. I knew she would take a break when moved from one environment to the other, but I am anxious.

Brens website: You search Brens Birds of Paradise and Cozy Nest. Debs website: You can search for Fawkes Silkies and it will pull it up.
