Check out this pullet's stance

She's unusually assertive for a pullet. I do push her out of my way and tote her around to remind her who is boss. Once I do handle her she seems to settle down. She's not aggressive to the other gals so I have not culled her.

Anybody else have an aggressive hen?

lol I have a hen that remembers me messing with her chicks so she makes it her mission to attack my feet when I get to close to her.

In any flock you've got your alpha the top dog and the omega the lowest most picked out. Do you have any roosters? Aggressive roo-ish hens are more often seen in flocks without a dominant rooster. Your dominant hen is going to take the place of a roo - and they can be aggressive. Usually your dominant hen is naughty to the others sometimes to remind them of their place - getting rid of #1 is just a temporary solution for when teh #1 is gone, #2 will take its place

Not sure if this translates but it might be worth trying. My EE is pecking at my BO when I dole out treats. So I picked up a spray bottle and filled it with water. It only took a few spritzes to get her to knock it off. It seemed more humane than separating her or worse, giving her away. Might be worth a try. Those spray bottles are only a couple of bucks.

I've got an aggressive Red Star that's always pecking on the others except for her big "sister." I try to tote her under my arm to get her to settle down. Once I even held her upside down for a minute and then lugged her around. She hates being picked up and will flap her wings to get away. I've got a spray bottle so tomorrow when she gets mean again, I'll be ready for Plan B.

I know whatcha mean but for me it's roosters snapping at each others head feathers. They take turns being #1. Just silly.

are you sure shes a she? the girls behind her have very small waddles/combs compared to the assertive "pullet"

I do have two cockerel brothers who are obviously male. They have well developed comb and wattles, and all her sister pullets are getting their girly wattles just like her. She has a tiny comb and does not have the tail feathers like her brothers. She does not peck me but will come to me just like the photos and stare at me. She does not boss the others of her flock. She is the first to hop on my arm, though, but allows others to roost on my arm with her. She is not bossy at feeding time. She'll eat her fill then stare at me. I'm beginning to think she likes to be carried around and has learned what she needs to do to be carried. I guess she's like me.....a bit peculiar!
