There is a subreddit on the Reddit forums about backyard chickens. Someone posted this. This idea is great! I think they are filled with water.

I actually did this but I put the bottles in the roof and they are the other way around it works great! grreat light in the day time! My coop is made of 100% free materials ,sry WAS 100% free I had to buy some hardware cloth to cover my door, My coop is not the prettiest thing in the world but my chickies are safe and have a nice roof over their heads,they are warm and cozy.They are happy ao I am happy!!!!!!!!!!!!
and yes you fill them 3/4 the way full of water and add bout a cap full of bleach to keep the water from turning

Its pretty clever, I think I might see if I can come up with a way to do it without cutting holes in the walls or roof. Maybe I can hang some in my south facing window.
