Hi DonnaHello. We are all good here in Kent UK. I love my girlies. They all have different personalities. I let them roam the garden but they poop everywhere as you all know. Thinking of giving them a part of the garden just for them so we can have some poop free bbq’s once the sun eventually arrives. I have a Nestera coop and they all insist on laying in the one side. Any hints to get them to use the other next box be good. Have a fun day everyone
Well, could be worse. Could be randomly all night. One of mine did that. The punk. I paid a lot of egg bribes to keep my neighbors happy with that guyAll is well in sunny California, my little Bantum has decided to transition to a rooster and wakes at the crack of dawn with her tiny cockadoodledoos![]()
Thanks for popping in and letting us know! It sounds awesome!Hi, it's been growing great! Have 7 American Bresse hens, 5 in the brooder at a month old, 1 naughty Rooster in time out cage. Have 7 egg layers (3 Australorps, 2 Lavender Orpingtons, 1 Buff Orpington, c1 Easter Egger) and 6 chick's (2 EE'S, 2 Leghorns, 2 chocolate Orpingtons). Our freezer is full of excess/naughty roosters). We get 10 eggs a day between the 14 laying hens, my egg sales are picking back up. Our cup runneth over!
Sometimes that happens. If you need a chicken fix, BYC is a great place to hang out, Even if you no longer have a flock.Hi. We don’t have chickens anymore. We had chickens for ten years. The size of our flock gradually dwindled from ten birds because of sickness and predators until we finally only had a single bird. We gave her away to an animal rescue.
Hello!
Hiya, Seth and Vanessa!Hey everyone, it's been awhile since we checked in. We lost some girls to hawks, so the group no longer free roams. The hawk problem appears to have been solved by this as well as adding some Ayam Cemani hens/rooster. As of now we have 7 girls and our Ayam Cemani rooster and things are pretty stable!
Oh man, so much poop I can only imagine but at least they'll be safe.Hello everyone! Kansas is supposed to get severe weather tomorrow. I’m gonna get my 15 ducks in the basement. There’s gonna be so much poop.![]()
Sounds like you're well on your way. We would definitely love pics.Hey everyone, I don't currently have any pictures but I will be sure to create a post in the near future when everything is more in order. I lost 99% of my flock last summer to a pair of rabid foxes while I was out at work. The foxes had to be eliminated for obvious reasons but luckily they left behind one of my black Australorps left, Henrietta. Once she got over the initial shell shock of losing her entire flock ( 5 Roo's and 24 other hens, a mix of Australorps, New Hampshires and Red Stars) She has been living her best life all year and has really warmed up to me and the family and has been enjoying having all our left overs and excess fruits and veggies all to herself. I currently have, now juvenile, (3) Rhode Island Reds (1) Buff Orpington and (2) Pekin ducks to start rebuilding a new mixed flock and I plan on getting a handful more Black Australorps as I just love them so much they are such a great breed. I have a 7x12 coop and my birds free range on about 5 acres, this time around I'm looking to keep my flock numbers a little more manageable per my needs, my previous flock size expanded unexpectedly. My first time around I had purchased 15 supposedly all sexed, one turned out to be a Roo, one day one of my hens went missing I thought she was taken by a predator, turns out she nested behind a propane tank, she hatched another 15 eggs 4 of which were more roostersand man that was some experience, really learned quick how to take care of my flock though, nursed sick ones back to health, learned about medications, didn't lose not one to disease or injury for 5 years until that pair of fox came around, it was a great experience for me it really improved me as a person, I'm really sad my girls and my roo's went out the way they did though I know its par for the course of the lifestyle that eventually in some capacity tragedy is bound to strike in one form or another. Anyway that's my current situation, looking forward to this year, moving the coop to a new location on the property and starting fresh looking forward to a new start this season!
Post pics! Everyone loves chick pics!Just clucking along with the chicks.![]()
