Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

Hi Al, still lurking around here reading everyone’s post about their babies. I am adding so much to my flocks getting my Peacock ready to breed. They have started mating this year and I will be selling peacocks so I am super excited. I am changing my birds out my chicken flock to gain some endangered species. I am always searching for eggs to incubate to get these guys back in the recovery list! I do have some Houdan And Sultan and so excited to have these sweet special birds and of course, getting my silkies back I’ve also introduced ducks. How in the world have I never had ducks before these guys are amazing!! I have had the best time with them They are just totally different and I am loving it! I have been super busy , but still reading everything that is on here helpful as always just wanted to say hi to everyone and hope everyone is doing OK so far this summer!

Checking in, been busy like everybody else! Currently expanding the run and obsessing about predator proofing, since we've had 2 fisher sightings.

Thanks for checking in, and good luck with your predator proofing. I've never seen a fisher, bit I've heard they are nasty little creatures.

Fisher's sound like bad news! Do you live close to a creek, river or lake? The further away your are the safer you will be from them.

It sounds like quite a bit or fun times at your place!

Peacocks, ducks, silkie chickens and getting rare and endangered breeds sounds like a dream for many.

If I move to a place out of the City, I would love getting some Ducks.

I've been busy but still raising bobwhites. Cutting back some but still at it.

I'm doing well - had an awesome coop built with attached covered run which (mostly followed my planned design! What I didn't anticipate was how much the rats would enjoy tunneling under it. I think we have that under control via live trapping and relocation. I could have used some black rat snakes
I have enough room to expand from the five hens we currently have, and I expect next year will be the next hatch for the broody girls. I'll be scanning the threads for any yard/forage recommendations. My current turn out yard gets covered with asters every year. I'm wondering if I should try to plant other things the girls might enjoy and can't destroy as easily as they do turf grass.

I had coturnix quail for a couple of years. I hope to get back into them at some point.

It sounds like you have had quite a time with the rats!

I have seen plans for building a planter that allowed the chickens to peck at the plants but now get to the roots easily. You can use any plants with this setup.

I am still chugging along! I've been in radiology technologist school for the last 2 years and just graduated so I finally have more time to spend with my chickens again. And of course that means we had to get some ducks too lol!
