I'm not sure if it's legal to own poultry where I live. If it is illegal do you think there is some way I could keep an Australorp Rooster?Like if I got permission from my neighbors?

When I first moved to this town I called and asked the police if someone could keep chickens in their backyard. The officer said, "Yes, if you don't get caught." So, find out your town's policy, and if it isn't really legal talk to the neighbors. You probably won't get in trouble if nobody complains.

Sounds like the SIL needs an attitude adjustment....sheesh some people.

Good luck with it but remember you are responsible for your animals once they leave your property...so with that comes penalties if they become a nuisance, destructive and such.
