cheese?

I had to buy chick grit because my darn kids couldn't resist tossing in a bit of grated cheddar cheese to the 22 chicks I have in the house (Never again will I brood in the house!) They go crazy on it, it's even better then watching them with mealworms. Like most things moderation is the key, as long as it's a treat and not a diet staple it won't hurt them and will make you thier favorite person--at least until it's gone.

I specifically BUY shredded mozzarella cheese for my chickens. I take a big handful out when I get home from work and after I get through the gate, put some in my other hand and the chickens eat it out of my hands.

Their first pecks are a bit "eager" but they settle down after a moment and peck more gently. I do have to toss a little bit down for Carl; he won't take it from my hand any more. I don't know why - he USED to eat out of my hand before he grew up into a Big, Handsome Rooster.

I don't think the amount they get almost every day is too much, spread amongst 9 chickens.
