This will be our first time raising chickens. One thing I am concerned about is; what if my automatic door from the coop to the run does not open and the chickens are stuck in the coop all day. I've read that it is a bad idea to keep waterers in the coop, but my wife and I both still work and we leave well before the door "should " open in the morning.

Any suggestions a appreciated.

If space is not a problem I would put food and water in the coop. Make sure there is enough ventilation, especially if you have cold winters, so the water that evaporates can escape, and place the waterer on a tray or pan to catch spills.

I have my water for my laying hens in their coop 🤷

I use these for waterers so the reservoir of water is outdoors and the bell waterer is inside.

I use the classic plastic waterers in the coop for winter.

Neither method is fool proof though. No matter what- pretty much everyday I get a rubber feed pan and empty the water trough into it to clean it out.

Water in the coop is definitely more annoying than keeping it outdoors. Mine stay locked up until 8am when their door opens to the outside free range so I wanted water in the coop for that reason. Also my ducks ruin any clean water I put out in the yard immediately so I need a waterer available for the hens that the ducks don't have access to.

outta control pool party this weekend!!!

they're hydrated besides their waterer.
