OK, how bad is cheese for chickens? We make our own mozzarella and there were a few curds that didn't get into the finished batch. Well, the chickens LOVED them...but I didn't think it was something they should get very often (or at all?). Any ideas? Thanks!

I feed mine left over cheese, although I am sure yours is much better

I believe moderation is the key. I would give it to them.

They will thank you! You should have seen them...it was better than meal worms!

....but we only make cheese about once a month so I will make sure to not over do it!

I made cheese just yesterday and fed it to my chicks. They went nuts. The cheese was my first ever batch and I did a lousy job. I plan to give it a go again, soon. Any pointers?

Mine go nuts over shredded mozzarella (store bought:( ) I would love to hear if it's OK. I did read that too much salt is not so good for them.

Cheese in moderate amounts is excellent hen food. Especially if you're making it yourself and not having to buy it.

If you have enough hens that they can clean it all up in an hour or so then the whey can be used by pouring it over their layer feed.

.....Alan.

Oh yes, cheese is the BIG treat at our house. They don't get it very often, but you should see the stampeding that occurs when I yell, "CHEESE" out the backdoor. And yes, they idolize cheese so much that they now definitely associate the word cheese with the meltable gold.
