My husband and I aren't looking to start backyard chickens until the Spring of 2018 (we live in Minnesota). Right now our lawn is chemically treated by a lawn service. My plan is to discontinue the service after this fall, and not have any lawn service starting in 2018 (so essentially that's 7-8 months of "no chemicals" before the young chickens would be on the lawn). Just to be sure, is that enough time for the lawn to be considered safe for chickens?

I would stop immediately. There is no telling what is being sprayed on your lawn or what the chemical half-life is. For example, Round-Up (TM) has a half-life of over 100 days (3 months). So if you put down a pound today, in 3 months there is still 1/2 pound, 6 months has a 1/4 pound and so on.

The sooner you stop, the better. Good luck and welcome to BYC.
