I have a flock of chickens in my side garden, but want to move them into my back garden and get a chain link dog run with a roof for them to give them extra space. We have fenced this garden well so when the dogs are in the run they can free range. But when the dogs are free in the garden the chickens need to be safe in their run. Neither dog would be trustworthy.
As we want to do this we have been bringing the chucks in the garden for the last week when the dogs r in the run, and the dogs r beginning to settle down. We do plan to work with the dogs and teach them not to lunge at the run, but I guess my question is, if they do lunge at the chickens run would chain link be enough?
I wouldn't use electric fencing as too many accidents happen: child could be near and dog associates the shock with the child, wouldn't be the first dog/child attack to happen this way.
