Tilly! Stay under the trees next time 😊 glad to see she’s fitting in and getting some spa treatment also!

Calling for snow here. And freezing rain Wednesday.
Here's our forecast. Looks like we are through the worst of winter.

The trees here have no leaves. How would that keep her dry?

Here's one idea for mice. I added cinnamon to
Keep well away from the chickens

Things like that can deter creatures, but if they're already inside, it won't make them leave. Deterrence doesn't work consistently, either. It only takes one determined to go through the scent barrier (or can detect something beyond that's desired badly enough) to breach it. That one will teach others.

It works like with children: bar something, provide a welcoming/desired "other" to aid in keeping the barred thing off limits. Have to have something elsewhere that is desired MORE than whatever is in the barred area, or have something IN the barred area more feared.

With winter here, even the chickens foraging options are limited. Mice....Bijou to be feared.

I am seriously jealous.
I got a surprise dusting of another 3” of snow overnight.
Not happy!

We did get a dusting last night. It will be gone soon.

Check out Tilly vs Éowyn footprints

For size comparison. That is a quarter compared to Éowyn's footprint.

I have been wanting to do this for some time now. I knew once I started doing this there would be no going back. So I am now diving in and I hope you all enjoy coming along for the ride.

First of all let me tell you how we view our flock as that will help you to understand why we treat them like we do.

Our birds are our pets and we treat them as such. We do not care if someone is not laying eggs. They are welcome to stay at Fluffy Butt Acres until they pass naturally. (Now don't go telling them that! I would hate for word to get out) We do thoroughly enjoy the fresh eggs.

I plan to tell stories from the past as well as from today. I hope you all enjoy and will share stories of your flocks as well.
Well I just signed up a moment ago too! I love your farm name. And I think of my chickids the same. They are part of my family and always will be. I live in south central PA.
