Cheryl's Hen House...

Oh, I wouldn't hold your breath.....neither of those breeds(orps and marans?) aren't likely to lay before 24-26 weeks. That dark one in the foreground appears to be a mix tho, so maybe. Any combs reddening up yet? Mine are 18 weeks, couple have gotten pretty red and been mated...so I added a couple extra nests into the coop. They are easter egger mixes, some hatched here some from hatchery.
3 Orps, 1 Maran, 3 Astrolorps, 1 BLRW. Interestingly enough the one with by far the biggest and reddest comb and waddles is #7. Not sure if being sick caused that or not but never the less I thought it interesting. 1 of the other Astrolorps also has a very red comb but smaller. The others are tiny and pink still.

Shirley, almost no comb or waddles and still pretty pink. Laverne, medium comb and waddles turning red. #7, ginormous comb and waddles and very red. He comb is so big it's actually falling over. No clue why that much difference. They've obviously been all together since day 1. It is interesting that #7 is so far advanced compared to the others. I'm guessing that the wry neck issue has something to do with it but that is truly a guess. Perhaps the massive amount of vitamin E that she got caused the advanced maturity. She is the biggest and is at the top of the pecking order. All the others still have little comb and waddle development.

Could be the vitamins and extra care early on....could just be a 'sister from another mother'..... hahaha!

lol.... Either way I suppose. It is interesting to me that we assumed that she was always going to be our "special needs" little one and she turned out to be the big bad leader of the pack. :)

My load of shredded trees arrived yesterday compliments of my local tree guy. Now the shoveling begins. Excited to get the DL going in the run!!

Cheryl and I were hanging out with the girls tonight. Just listening to them and watching them run around. Never even crossed my mind that we would enjoy their company this much when this all began.

Yeah, I remember you saying you were just doing all this to make Cheryl happy. But who is the one who has become the chicken forum addict?
