Oh, I did have one question.... I was up all night reading about incubating.... plus I found this really handy egg list, will post in a min. But I have a question about the holes with the plugs.....

From what I gather, since everything I read said "refer to your incubator's instructions"

... yeah right!

Anyhow.... those only get opened at the end when they are hatching...correct???Do I need to allow any exchange of air at any other time?

For turning my eggs since I will be doing it manually... I am thinking of putting a little hatch door on the side of the cooler that I can reach thru without having to remove the entire top. What do you think??

Oh, and one article I read said that you can put cheese cloth over the wire just prior to hatching so the chickies little feet don't fall thru.

So excited!!!

I use that non slip shelf liner that the others were using (orange for me as orange is the new pink LOL) I found mine at the $ tree. I am going to stock up as my sister made a comment about it being pretty good that my bator has shelf lining and my cupboards don't LOL good luck watching for pics

Thanks Miss Prissy you are one amazing woman

You need air vent holes for a steady flow of air through the incubator. The eggs must 'breathe' (exchange gases) to grow and develop. They will die in an air tight container.

Secondly the larger vent holes plugged with wine corks is to help regulate the humidity. Open to let some out and thereby lower it, plug to keep it in to raise the humidity.

There are 2 sets of holes. Ones very small near the bottom and then the big ones up higher.

So do you add additional holes for that? Or will the exchange of air when I flip eggs be enough? Should I nix the hatch idea and just go ahead and use the lid to rotate my eggs?

You must have small vent holes for air exchange at all times. If not the embryos will die. Use an icepick and put some holes on both sides so air can flow in and out.
