Chic Chick 'Bator *UPDATED*

I like the idea of opening from the side... does it help trap a little more heat/humidity that way?

I think the bulk of my time so far has been spent struggling and wrestling with that darn hardware cloth!

That stuff is just nasty mean!

Allrighty.... I have my stuff all wired up, though I do want to double check on one thing...... the ribbed wire runs to the silver screw and from the silver screw to the #2 post on the thermo. right? And the same for the smooth wire...to thr brass and from the brass to the #1? I don't want to blow any fuses or start any fires..

So far so good..... going to put my glass in the lid next. Then I still have to get a computer fan. Have to check with my friend tonight to see if he has any laying around..... otherwise I'll be having to pull one from my computer..

I'll post pics when it is all done.

Another question.... Says on my packaging... no picture of course

... that terminals require straight-in wiring. Does that mean that I cannot loop the wire around the screw before tightening it... that I can only stick a little bit of wire in? How does it not fall out!? Confuzzled.....

I still need to put in my holes and fan. Miss Prissy...how many small holes should I do and where to place them... below the eggs or above?

I am wondering, if I put a square of tinfoil inder the bulb, will it help it heat the bator better and keep the styro from melting?

And also, to those that use that foamlike shelf stuff... do you put it in from day one or only before hatching?

The light will not get hot enough to melt the styrofoam. You are only heating to 100 degrees.

I put 3 or 4 tiny vents on each of the long sides and 2 on the short.

Ok.... I have mine up and running. Holding temp. My one thermometer says 101 and so does the one in the water wiggler. But the other digital one that I have that measures humidity says 99.5 Should I go with what the other two are saying??? Also, getting condensation on the top of the bator. Is this ok? If not, how do I stop this? Humidity is at 58%.
