Chic Chick 'Bator *UPDATED*

Is there a way you could use an egg flat and dowl rods for a turner, and rig it to tilt it back and forth??? If that works please allow me credit for the idea

My grandson (6yr) just seen me looking at this and he said, She must be like some kind of inventor, LOL If you all decide to market these let me be the first in line to purchase one, I haven't gotten up the nerve to try to make my own yet.

4boysmom,
I don't think I quite followed you on the egg turner, but please post pictures of your bator once it is done (and in progress).

Hi Aran,

Things are going pretty well. I am waiting for my boys to settle down and actually decide to sleep instead of picking on one another.

Mom is considering keeping 2 of the "roos" I gave her. SHe has decided that they are pullets. Wow, if they are Ideal sure screwd up on the sexing bit the day mine were hatched. I am on a mission to find eggs here in North Houston from hens that are humanely treated. The story livestock 101 posted really affected me and I don't want to be party to treating birds bad. How are things for you? I keep thinking about how wonderful it will be for you and your family when next Friday rolls around.

Then you will be your own official self.

Hopefully with more time for your family and your chickens...can't wait to see how things turn out for you with the Silkie eggs and your home made bator. I would love to try that but we are going to be on the road a lot over the next year and have no place to legally keep birds except my folks ranch--still working on Mom about keeping more birds.

I am really enjoying this post!! I can't wait to make my own. Just talked to my DH and he thinks we may have a foreign assignment after he is finished with the current project he is on. I told him all I wanted was somewhere I could have chickens and be safe.

I have an idea about an automatic egg turner. If a person could take a small motor that turns real slow, like 3/4 revolutions per minute. Cut out a plastic circle about 3" in dia. Attach the motor output in the center of the plastic circle and attach a small rod (clothes hanger) to the outer circumference (just on the edge. As the motor turns it would turn the disk, with a 3" dia. circle you should get about 1.5' travel on the rod. Cut some Cutting board into 3" strips and let them pivot from the ends attach each 3" board in a series and attach to the rod. I will draw up a picture and try and post it for further explanation. Here is a link for the motor:

Here is a quick hand drawing of what I had in my head. I should have done it in AutoCad, but I didn't feel like the hassle:
