Chic started zipping around 10 last night, no progress since

Chick detached from this. Now completely out and moving around. Appears to have pooped also.

Congratulations on your first assisted hatch. Two things cause yolks not being absorbed by the time they hatch. One is they are hatching early and that is a sign of too high of heat. If they hatch day 19-20 and are large fowl eggs then your temp was a degree high. The other thing that causes it is delayed absorbing of yolk due to too high of humidity over course off incubating.

Hey! So my first ever hatch is happening right now! Started with 10 cream legbars and 10 mottled lavender orpingtons. Candled 3 times during incubation, discarded 5 eggs, 1 quitter, 1 blood ring, and 3 that appeared to be infertile. At lockdown, I saw movement on all 15, 9 lavenders, and 6 legbars. Yesterday was day 21, 7 had pipped and 1 hatched by the time I went to bed. Woke to another hatched out, and 1 that looked like it zipped, then stopped. It was vocalizing and moving it's beak, so I left it even though the membrane appeared brownish. After 3 hours with zero progress, I took it out. The zip was rock hard, he was seriously stuck! So I helped chip away the shell along the zip, kept wetting it down, and once his head popped free, I put him back. He pushed the rest of the way out on his own. My question is, what do I do about the hardened part of his back/wing? It still has a good chunk of shell attached. Do I help? Bath him? I still have many pipped eggs in there, but I'm having a hard time seeing if there are any issues because the new babies have knocked them against the bator walls.

Thank you I am super excited, definitely going to be spoiled. His mom is a Black Giant and dad is a rooster from next door who is a mix but is a big boy. Little one was definitely compacted in that shell. I had the heat around 100 and humidity around 50 and then around 70 for lock down. Not sure just glad chick appears to be doing good. The other two were bad. This little one is almost completely dry now and is a light to medium gray. Super cute. Thank you so much for all your help. I was definitely freaking out. Going to move to the brooder and start feed this afternoon since he/she didn't absorb all the yolk.

I would do the same as you did with helping the hatch and use warm water and get it off. Good luck.

That's the part that will cause yolks not to be absorbed. Too high of humidity during incubation. 50% it too high, try 30% then up to 70 for "lock down". You'll see a higher rate of hatching and less problems.
