Hello and Welcome to BYC. Glad to have you in this poultry loving community. Best wishes for your hatch. I get more excited about a broody hen hatching than I do with my incubators. Just love a mama hen with her little ones gathered around her.

Welcome!Hi Everyone,
I’ve been a chicken mom for almost a year. I found Edna, roaming the parking lot of a Menards. She was alone I scooped her up. Brought her home put her in a cat kennel. She laid her first egg with in a week.
I purchased babies, 2 barred rocks and 1 silky. The silky died. I was able to get another one, as I had everything I needed. So I got 2 silkies.
4th of July around her in this city is horrible. I went out to check on everyone, Edna was laying dead, a 1/4 stick wrapping next to the coop. She was a sweet girl. Then Esther had injured her leg. I relinquished her to the bird vet, she got adopted by the vet tech- now a house chicken.
So I’m down to 3 from 5.
If I knew that would have happened I would have. I’m a paramedic for Chicago, when I say it’s a war zone here, it is.hello and welcome.
are you saying 1/4 stick as in M80 someone threw one in your yard next to the coop and it killed your chickens?
that’s HORRIFIC. omg!
can you bring your chickens inside your house next year? maybe in a basement if you have one?
