not sure who told you that fishy tale?
no you can breed the tort to the Tri and still get tri's but you will also get torts.
Little lesson in torts tri-s and Harliquins,
Harliquin is normally the name for any 3 colored mini rex or Rex breed, holland etc.
The Buck you have is whats normally known as a Broken Harliquin, meaning pattern is broken up with patches of white. also known as a Tri Mini rex.
Confused yet LOL
Tri bred to a solid Harliquin ( which is what it would be with out the wite patches) will produce Tri and Harliquin.
as mentioned bred to tort would produce both tri and tort.
NOW here in lies the little problem, You have BOTH buck and doe as brokens. meaning, that broken bred to broken will give you more broken, some to the point where there will be no nose patch , ( or mustache) called a Charlie. good for pet and good to breed to a solid color rabbit.
so to recap. Get a Harliquin Doe to breed to the Tri another broken wont do what you want it to do.
but you can still breed the tort to the tri and get some really nice rabbits. just not always show quality. but definately breeder quality.
That buck is really nice. moore than 50 % color so not showable except for comments. Doe is a nice looking Doe from what I can see of her.
Breed them honestly I would.
oh my, so for a better chance at producing something that could would be shown would be to use what doe? LOL way more confusing than i thought. the breeder said to put him in the show, wonder why she thinks it could be shown if the pattern is more than it should be. alot to learn i see, as with everything, it cant be easy.
yeah there is a lot to learn with showing rabbits. but its easily learned. and always tons of people to give some good advice and sometimes bad advice. but that happens everywhere with animals.
Ok ARBA Standards of Perfection call for:
Pattern:
all broken patterned animals are to have balanced nose markings, ( no preference given for butterfly over evenly balanced nose spots), a colored eye marking around each eye and color on both ears.
the body color is to be evenly distributed in a spotted, patched, or blanket pattern, Preference given to an evenly balanced pattern. the feet below the ankle joints are to be pure white.
the total amount of coloration on a broken patterned animal is to be not less than 10 % (must be bigger than a dime) or more than 50 % of the entire animal.
You get your best broken patterns from breeding the charlie to a solid patterned animal.
what I would do is breed these 2 together , get a litter, keep the one with no nose spot or butterfly. then when you find a nice Harliquin doe or buck breed it to the Charlie. that way you will get both broken and solid animals
picture of aacceptable nose spot but the body didnt have enough color:
Half butterfly, eye markings and more than 10 % color
this baby is a Charlie, notice the missing nose spot or butterfly , but has slight eye markings.
Full butterfly:
Solid color:
more than 50 % color:
PERFECTION!!
not all of these rabbit are mini rex but the standards are all the same for all broken patterned rabbits.
These are all my rabbits, some were breeders some from litters.
The last rabbit Mr, Majestic was bought because he was just so darned perfect, he is a Simese Satin.
