Chick 🐄 Peck my Son’s Eye šŸ‘

Chicks sure love shiny eyeballs. They also love nostrils and earholes.
My grandma had gotten pecked in the eye by a curious chick and it caused a bleed but she got better. The baby meant no malicious intent.

My young chicks like to stick their faces into my ears for some reason and grind their beaks.
I tried to explain to him that the chick 🐄 was just curious and that is how they explore their world šŸŒŽ......peck, peck, peck. šŸ˜‚. I am pretty sure he will be more cautious from now on.

I hope that he recovers soon. I'm sorry that this happened!
Yes, hoping he is a quick healer. Thank you! 😊 We are planning on going on vacation on Saturday so that was another reason I wanted it checked out right away. I wanted to be proactive and get it healed quick with hopefully no complications/infections. If we wouldn’t have been going anywhere, I probably would have done the wait-and-see approach. (No pun intended) 🤣

This literally just happened to me!
I had given some squash blossoms as treats to the chicks and was squated down with a chick that has some swelling issues. I was letting it eat some without the others stealing it since they outmaneuver it right now. I had a chick jump up on each shoulder, they like to mess with my hair. I turned my head to ask my daughter to set them down off me so I could stand back up. Only to find a barred rock chick aiming for my eye. Peck!
Went inside and gave my eye a rinse but it feels kinda off. When I looked closely in the mirror I could actually see where it pegged me. It is making seeing out of that eye kinda blurry but it isn't painful and isn't bleeding.

Yikes! I hope yours heals quickly! Be careful for any dirty water (lakes/rivers) to keep infection out. Also, no wind so the eye stays moist and is able to heal. (those were the things the doc told us). I had my son in for a recheck and yesterday his vision was 100/20 and today it is 40/20 (I may have numbers reversed 20/40 or 40/20 šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø). The swelling has gone down today as well. Doctor expects it to be 20/20 tomorrow. He is not complaining of pain or discomfort today. He does have eye drops (Ofloxicin) for during the day and ointment (Erythromycin) for night.

I myself had to learn real quick that the cute little chicks I once had are now like raptor dinosaurs!
We had one barred rock pullet that would stop at nothing to get a shot at those big moist marbles we keep out of their reach.

The other scary thing … going into a pen when you've got a bleeding wound or you're recovering from one.

Yes they sure do like those delicious scabs.
I'm pretty sure the one that got me was a barred rock roo.... Which means I will probably get the last Peck in ;)

Woke up this morning to my eye feeling delightfully gummy and tender. It's very red and slightly swollen like I've been crying for hours, and I had to have my hubby's help put some drops in it.
I am now threatening to make safety glasses mandatory safety equipment before entering the chicken pen!
