I have to admit, I'm a chick-a-holic.
First 2 (1 BR & 1 O) for my son, DH accidently let the dog get to the O, so I had to get more and I came home with 9 more (4 Cornish-they told me they were egg layers, not meat birds, 3 RIR & 2 RSL). Then I went to get 2 EE's and came home with 4. DH said "no more."
Then the kids and I went to our 1st show with a limit of 2 in mind, and we came home with 5 (2 Silkies, 1BO,1SLW, 1PR). Then DH said, "That is it! No more!"
The BR started crowing and one RIR was looking like a roo, so they found a new home. The Cornish were hogging the food, making a mess and making me sad because I knew their purpose, so they found a new home. The SLW and 1 Silkie died.
I think they had cocci from having older ones with them. I have now learned to keep the little ones separate so they can build up immunity. So, we replaced the SLW with an older one that looked healthy. I love "her". So sweet.
This week I went to cancel an order from MPC like I promised my DH I would. I couldn't do it. I kept thinking of the lone silkie so small and the other possible roos I have. (I can't keep any roos.) I ended up switching the order to 5 bantams, 1 BO and 1 RIR. I've been trying for 3 nights to get up the nerve to tell DH. I have to this weekend since they ship out on June 8th. What do I do???
So, right now I have 8 wks old: 2 RSL & 2 RIR; 5 wks: 4 EE's, 1 SLW; and 3 wks: 1 Black Silkie, 1 BO, & 1 PR. That's 12 with 7 on the way. Unfortunately we have now found out that even though we are on 1 private acre, we are zoned R-1 and can't have "agricultural animals" such as chickens. If zoning finds out, we would have to find homes for them. Our 2 neighbors that can see our yard say they are fine with it. I pray no one complains. I love them! It is so much fun and such a stress reliever to sit and watch them. Help!!!
I'm a chick-a-holic and must stop!!!
